Riley and I have a nearly new truck to haul our little travel trailer.  The front seat is for the driver (me), and the back seat is for the navigator (Riley).

I'm Riley

After many years teaching, I decided to explore our world on my own - to visit those places I have read about in books and short stories.  There is so much to see in this great land and so many new people to meet.  I want to know their stories, too.  Having spent many years in the Midwest, I know that, although there are differences in attitudes, we are all of one mind on the really important issues.  The many responses to the recent terrible floods in Texas and Louisiana show that we are a good people willing to sacrifice for those less fortunate and for those in trouble.  That is the American Spirit I want to witness and explore.

I lost my best friend and partner in 2016 after nearly a half century of mutual love, respect, and understanding.

And although my life's partner is no longer with me, she will be by my side on every trip.  Carol loved visiting and had a winning way that made everyone feel comfortable.  Always generous, kind, and good-natured, Carol could brighten any conversation and make everyone feel important.  I have never known anyone who cared so deeply for the well-being of other people.  Her views socially, religiously, politically, and morally were an inspiration to me to try to better myself.
