From OKC to Erick
From Oklahoma City to Erick is a straight shot west on I40. On the way, one passes through Yukon, Weatherford, Elk City, Sayre, and then Erick. Erick is nearly the last town before the Texas border. These towns through which I passed were so full of memories. In each town, there are memories I cherish and experiences I'll never forget. Yukon is the home of Coach Bedell with whom I taught in the Erick Public School for six years. It is also the home of Garth Brooks which is no less impressive than to know Erick is the home of Roger Miller!
I used to drive the school bus to Weatherford so our students could have their senior pictures "made." It's also the home of Southwestern College where many of our students studied. Elk City and Sayre were towns Carol and I visited often to shop or to eat out. Thirty five years ago, November 8, Abigail was born in the Elk City hospital.
Elk City hospital. However, I don't remember the hospital being that modern. Perhaps in the intervening years, a more modern facilty was constructed.
In the center of town is this
oil rig! It is, as far as I could
tell, an operating well!
At 12:30, I left for Elk City to have lunch with Terry White. His lunch break is from 1-2. We had lunch at a small eatery across the street. The Rubin I had was really tasty! I was so happy to see what a fine young man Terry has become! He runs a cell phone operation that serves people who have fallen on hard times and can't afford to purchase a cell phone contract (I think). He said that the economy has suffered a downturn, and people need help. We talked about all the experiences in Erick we had in common. His son is ranching on Terry's land south of Erick by about 3 miles.
